About me

A woman playing the piano in a bright room with large windows and white blinds.

Hello, I’m Penny

I teach fun, friendly piano lessons to children and adults from my home in Ipswich.

My goal as a piano teacher is to inspire a love of music that will last a lifetime. I tailor one-to-one piano lessons to each student’s learning style and musical ambitions. Whether that’s working towards graded examinations or just being able to play your favourite songs.

Music has always been an extremely important part of my life. I started learning the piano at age 7 and am so grateful to my parents for setting me off on my musical journey. As a young person my life was full of music making - as well as piano I took up violin so that I could play in the school orchestra and later saxophone to join both a marching band and swing band. And there was lots of singing too. Of all those things, it is the piano that has remained constant, and where I always feel the most content.

After completing my music degree I took up a completely different career, but in 2018 started teaching piano lessons alongside the day job. I discovered that I loved it and that it gave me an energy and fulfilment that my other job never had. I knew then that I had to find a way to do more of it and now I divide my time equally between my two professions.

So whether you’re just starting out, returning after a break, or looking for a change of teaching approach, I’d love to help you discover the joy of playing the piano too!

Qualifications:

BMUS(Hons) 2:1 (music degree); ABRSM Grade 8 Piano; ABRSM Grade 8 Singing; ABRSM Grade 8 Voice.

I also have an Enhanced DBS certificate, the highest level of DBS check.
